Our Mobile Device Security Audit service is intended to set a baseline for all internal wifi communications, security, and to set the stage so that we can identify ALL wifi and mobile devices using company resources. The LAST thing we want is a rogue device to introduce something bad, or to use company resources in a way that could be illegal (i.e., downloading bootleg movies, accessing the dark-web). This will also set the stage for us to accurately monitor these activities in our Monthly Security Inspections and act accordingly.
How Mobile Device Security works:
- We rename wifi networks to (companyname)-Private and (companyname)-Guest. As before, Guest access will have limited internet access, NO access to company resources, , and will not be subject to individual identification, unless you request it. We will also change the passwords to both of these wifi networks.
- We give the password to the private wifi network as needed, but only after (a) the mobile device has been renamed to the owners name, so it can be identified and (b) we install Trend security client on all Android devices (and Apple if you choose). We also have cloud-backup clients available for mobile devices, if you want to back them up. (All software already comes with your existing subscriptions and costs nothing, except for cloud backup space)
With this in place, we can easily identify any device that does not belong on the “private” network and block it during our Monthly Security Inspections (MSI’s). Keep in mind, that we must be able to identify and ensure appropriate security protection for ALL devices that may have access to company resources (servers, printers, etc). If you want to extend these protections to the “guest” wifi network, we can do that, too, but at this time, that threat is minimal. (Over time, that may change…)
Anyway – we are doing our first Mobile Device Security Audit today, and as usual – we appreciate your business and KNOW that your IT is OUR business.
We don’t wait for “checkmate.”
